Section 4 – Our priorities

The following sections set out our priorities under this strategy. The priorities have been shaped by health in Wales, wider global factors and threats, and key legislation and policy. Our strategic risks have also played a key part in developing our priorities.

The delivery of our six priorities recognises the importance of:

  • primary prevention (reducing the incidence of disease);
  • secondary prevention (detecting the early stages of disease and intervening before full symptoms develop); and
  • tertiary prevention (managing disease after diagnosis to slow or stop its spread).

This is reflected, where relevant, within the scope of each priority.

Each priority is supported by our commitment to reducing health inequalities. We will use the five ways of working set out in the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 to help put each priority in place, including by working with our partners.
