Public Health Wales Research and Evaluation Strategy 2023-2026

We have developed a Research and Evaluation Strategy for Public Health Wales which will take us through to 2026. It shows how we will work with others to lead research and evaluation in Wales. This is an enabling strategy which will help us deliver Our Long Term Strategy (2023-35)

Public Health Wales is committed to research and evaluation to find ways to improve health, reduce inequalities, and promote well-being in Wales.

To implement the strategy we will:

  • Identify research and evaluation priorities
  • Lead and work with partners on meaningful research and evaluation
  • Shape research and evaluation to understand what approaches are effective and how they can be implemented

To make our strategy work, we will:

Build a culture of research and evaluation

We want to build a culture of research and evaluation which values research and evaluation activities. We want a culture that supports staff to develop and apply research and evaluation skills, to increase workforce capacity and capability

Manage and support research and evaluation in Public Health Wales

We will build an enabling infrastructure within Public Health Wales to support and manage research. This will support the development of a thriving research and evaluation environment within the organisation.

Work with others to deliver research and evaluation

As Public Health Wales is part of a wider research and evaluation ecosystem, it is vital that we work with a wide range of partners and funders. We want to influence the research agenda of research funders, governmental sectors, academic institutions and partner organisations.

Include partners, stakeholders and the public in our research and evaluation

Excellent public involvement and engagement makes research and evaluation more relevant, reliable and more likely to change practice. We want to involve people with an interest in population health to improve the relevance, quality and impact of our research and evaluation.
