Since the Child Measurement Programme was started in Wales, one of the consistent findings is that a higher proportion of children in Cardiff Local Authority are underweight, when compared to other areas of Wales.
The reason for this variation is not clear; therefore a piece of work was undertaken in 2015/16 to understand what factors are associated with the prevalence of being underweight in childhood and whether these factors influenced the proportion of underweight children in Cardiff.
This project comprised of two parts; a comprehensive literature review and analysis of aggregated Child Measurement Programme data.
This report describes the methods used to review the evidence base, the findings of the literature review and data analysis and the recommendations drawn from the results.
