Colleagues working on the Oxford Covid-19 vaccine study in Wales have received a MediWales innovation award in recognition of their efforts.
The study, a collaboration between Public Health Wales, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Centre for Trials Research and Health and Care Research Wales, received the award for Health and Social Care Research Partnership with Industry.
Those involved were commended for the real difference the study has made to finding a lasting solution to the pandemic. They were also praised for their efforts in setting up the study in record time, collaborating with national partners and working across organisational boundaries.
Dr Chris Williams, Principal Investigator for Public Health Wales and lead for the vaccine trial in Wales, said: “It was an honour to lead the Wales site for such an important and significant trial, and it is also pleasing for the whole team to have our efforts recognised in receiving this reward. I extend my thanks and congratulations to everyone involved.”
The MediWales Innovation Awards are held annually to celebrate outstanding achievements in the Welsh life science and health technology communities. This year, the awards ceremony took place entirely online for the first time, with guests tuning in from across Wales to represent the NHS, industry, academia, government and more.
