Training resources available in preparation for the COVID -19 Vaccination

There are training resources available that can be accessed now, to enhance knowledge about core vaccination and immunisation principles.

Public Health England are leading on the development of the COVID-19 immunisation training materials, these will include a COVID-19 elearning module, comprising of a core knowledge section and vaccine specific sections, a comprehensive training slide set and clinical competency framework. Once these training resources have been authorised they will be available for use in Wales.

There is an existing immunisation training module sometimes referred to as the two day programme, it is based on the national immunisation training standards. This module is available now, for free it provides the general core knowledge and principles of immunisation and vaccination, such as vaccine storage, vaccine administration, legal issues, etc. Users can self- register by following the instructions on the website: https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/immunisation/ . Once a module has been completed, for example vaccine storage, a certificate can be printed off. Completing these modules will not replace COVID-19 immunisation training, all individuals who are going to be immunising and or providing immunisation advice regarding COVID-19 vaccine(s) are required to complete the COVID-19 elearning module, new immunisers or returning staff will be required to complete a clinical competency assessment with a supervisor.
