With a red weather warning for wind put in place, Public Health Wales is urging people across Wales to be vigilant as strong winds caused by Storm Eunice and high tides could lead to possible flooding on Friday.
This is likely to be one of the strongest storms we’ve experienced in some years and people are urged to take care and act on the advice being given by the emergency services, Natural Resources Wales, and local authorities across Wales, as well as other agencies.
Sarah Jones, Consultant in Environmental Public Health for Public Health Wales said:
“We are concerned about Storm Eunice and advise people to take all possible care. Only travel if necessary and stay away from woodlands, the coast and rivers.
“We are monitoring the situation closely and are concerned about the possibility of significant flooding in many places.
“Please, take notice of all of the advice being given by different agencies and look after friends and family.
Public Health Wales also publishes advice on flooding and how to deal with it. Flooding can affect physical and mental health, in the short or longer term.
Our pages describe what people can do to protect their health during and after flooding.
Simply, our advice is to stay out of floodwater, to wash your hands after contact with flood water or any item that has been in flood water and to make sure that friends, family and neighbours are looked after during floods, during clean-up and throughout the time it may take to get back to normal.
