Women with a Physical Disability

Across Wales, BTW has a fleet of accessible mobile screening units.  These mobile units have a large lift which will allow women who are wheelchair users to enter the mobile safely and be screened in their local community.

In addition to the lift, the unit has several features to make the service easier for disabled users, these include:

• Wider corridor down the centre of the unit
• Larger entrance with a lowered reception desk
• Wider door into the x-ray room. A larger mammography room allows more space for a wheelchair
• A large changing cubicle to accommodate wheelchairs
• A call button at street level will also enable users to register on arrival.
• The unit can accommodate wheelchairs up to 31” wide.

When a woman receives her routine invitation for breast screening, BTW asks that women with a disability contact their local breast screening centre to arrange their appointment on a mobile unit.
