1. Do all care staff require mouthcare training?
Yes! As with all aspects of healthcare, it is essential that staff are properly trained to deliver care safely and effectively. Mouthcare is an integral part of care within health and care settings and is beneficial for all residents. Maintaining good mouthcare is imperative in reducing the risk of infection and improving hydration and comfort for residents.
2. What will care staff learn?
Staff will learn why good mouthcare matters, and practical skills needed to support residents with mouthcare and the resources available. They will learn how to provide good mouthcare for residents who are dependent for care and strategies to manage residents who require extra care or have dementia.
3. Who delivers mouthcare training?
Training can be arranged with the local Gwên am Byth dental team. They may train all staff delivering personal care in a care home, or they may train nominated mouthcare champions within a care home, who will be supported to train colleagues.
