FOI 2024 123 - PPE Quantity during COVID pandemic

 

Information Requested:

I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000: 

  

  1. The total quantity (individual items) of PPE procured in Wales since  the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) and estimated cost of this PPE that was written off, deemed defective, or unusable since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) and estimated cost of PPE that has been disposed of to date since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) of PPE that are classified as excess stock since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost of storing this. 

 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) of PPE that have been dispatched to the NHS and other care settings since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

 

  1. The entities that have obtained contracts for the disposal of PPE in Wales since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.  

 

  1. The total value of the contracts awarded for the disposal of PPE (a breakdown including a breakdown of the contract values for each entity).

Please note the below information is for Public Health Wales (PHW) only.  

 

Public Health Wales is the public health service for Wales and as such is an independent NHS Trust. As an organisation we have no jurisdiction over the activities of Health Boards and other NHS Wales organisations. This means we do not routinely have access to the data they produce.  I have provided contact details for the relevant NHS organisations/Health Boards at the end of this response. You would need to contact them individually for any information they may hold.   

 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) of PPE procured in Wales since  the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Public Health Wales (PHW) does not hold this information. Each NHS Organisation/Health Board may hold information in relation to their individual body. NHS Wales Shared Services Procurement service may also hold this information. Please see contact details at the end of this response. 

 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) and estimated cost of this PPE that was written off, deemed defective, or unusable since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) and estimated cost of PPE that has been disposed of to date since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.  

Any PPE identified by Public Health Wales classed as unusable or for disposal from our stock was returned to NHS Wales Shared Services Procurement Service for appropriate disposal – specifically Cardinal Type IIR Face Masks and Fang Tian Ft-045a Ffp3 Masks.  Quantities returned were quantities supplied by NHS Wales Shared Services Procurement Service.   The costs for these items are not held. You will need to contact NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) for any information they may hold for this question. Please see contact details at the end of this response.

Public Health Wales’ current PPE stock is not deemed to be excess stock and there are no associated storage costs.  

 

  1. The total quantity (individual items) of PPE that have been dispatched to the NHS and other care settings since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Public Health Wales does not and has no responsibility for the dispatch of PPE to other NHS organisations or care settings. You will need to contact other NHS Organisation and Health Boards for information they may hold for this question.  NHS Wales Shared Services Procurement service may also hold this information.
