Diwrnod Rhyngwladol y Dynion

Cyhoeddwyd: Dydd Iau 19 Tachwedd

Mae 19 Tachwedd yn nodi Diwrnod Rhyngwladol y Dynion sy’n achlysur i dynnu sylw at bwysigrwydd modelau rôl gwrywaidd cadarnhaol a chodi ymwybyddiaeth o iechyd a llesiant dynion.

Yn y DU, mae’r thema a’r ffocws yn parhau i fod ar sut y gallwn wneud gwahaniaeth i ddynion a bechgyn a sut y gallwn roi gwell cyfleoedd i ddynion a bechgyn mewn bywyd drwy fynd i’r afael â rhai o’r materion sy’n effeithio ar ddynion a bechgyn, megis:

  • Y gyfradd uchel o hunanladdiad ymysg dynion
  • Yr heriau sy’n wynebu dynion a bechgyn ar bob cam o addysg, gan gynnwys cyrhaeddiad
  • Iechyd dynion (gan gynnwys canserau ymysg dynion, e.e. canser y prostad, canser y ceilliau), disgwyliad oes byrrach a marwolaethau yn y gweithle
  • Yr heriau sy’n wynebu’r dynion a’r bechgyn mwyaf ymylol mewn cymdeithas (er enghraifft, dynion digartref, bechgyn mewn gofal a’r gyfradd uchel o ddynion sy’n marw yn y carchar)
  • Dynion sy’n dioddef trais, gan gynnwys trais rhywiol
  • Yr heriau sy’n wynebu dynion fel rhieni, yn enwedig tadau newydd a thadau sydd wedi gwahanu
  • Dynion sydd wedi goroesi neu wedi dioddef cam-drin rhywiol, trais rhywiol, camfanteisio rhywiol, cam-drin domestig, priodas dan orfod, throseddau er anrhydedd, stelcio a chaethwasiaeth
  • Y portread negyddol o ddynion, bechgyn a thadau

Mae iechyd meddwl dynion yn parhau i fod yn fater dybryd ac amlwg. Er bod dynion a menywod yn profi llawer o’r un anawsterau, gall rhai anawsterau a dylanwadau fod yn arbennig o berthnasol i ddynion. Yn fyd-eang, mae dyn yn lladd ei hun bob munud. Mae 75% o bobl sy’n lladd eu hunain yn y DU yn ddynion. Hefyd, mae cyfraddau uwch o hunanladdiad i’w cael mewn cymunedau lleiafrifol, gan gynnwys dynion hoyw, cyn-filwyr, dynion o gefndiroedd BAME a’r rhai sydd ag incwm isel. Mae mwy o wybodaeth ar gael yma.

Felly, mae Diwrnod Rhyngwladol y Dynion yn gyfle i godi ymwybyddiaeth o’r materion hyn ac i annog dynion o bob cefndir i siarad am y materion hyn a cheisio cymorth ar gyfer unrhyw broblemau y gallent fod yn eu cael.

Hefyd, peidiwch ag anghofio y gallwch chi, fel dyn, gefnogi Rhwydwaith y Menywod, sy’n gyfle gwych i sefyll gyda’ch gilydd i eirioli dros gydraddoldeb rhywedd.

Os yw unrhyw un o'r materion uchod wedi effeithio arnoch chi:

I siarad â rhywun ar unwaith, cysylltwch â’r Samariaid drwy ffonio 116 123.

Os yw bywyd mewn perygl, ffoniwch 999 neu ewch yn uniongyrchol i'r gwasanaethau brys.

International Men’s Day

Published: Thursday 19 November

19 November marks International Men’s Day, which is an occasion to highlight the importance of positive male role models and raising awareness of men’s health and well-being.

In the UK, the theme and focus remains on how we can make a difference to men and boys, and, how we can give men and boys better life chances by addressing some of the issues that affect men and boys such as:

  • The high male suicide rate
  • The challenges faced by boys and men at all stages of education including attainment
  • Men’s health (including male cancers, e.g. prostate, testicular), shorter life expectancy and workplace deaths
  • The challenges faced by the most marginalised men and boys in society (for instance, homeless men, boys in care and the high rate of male deaths in custody)
  • Male victims of violence, including sexual violence
  • The challenges faced by men as parents, particularly new fathers and separated fathers
  • Male victims and survivors of sexual abuse, rape, sexual exploitation, domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based crime, stalking and slavery
  • The negative portrayal of men, boys and fathers

Men’s mental health remains a pressing and prominent matter, and while many of the same difficulties are experienced by both men and women, some difficulties and influences on mental health may be especially relevant for men. Globally, every minute, a man dies by suicide. In the UK 75% of suicides are men. Higher rates of suicide are also found in minority communities including gay men, war veterans, men from BAME backgrounds, and those with low incomes. More information can be found here.

International Men’s Day is therefore a chance to raise awareness of these issues, and encourage men of all backgrounds to speal up and seek help for any issues they may be having.

Also, don’t forget that as a man you can still join the Women’s Network as an ally, which is a great opportunity to stand together to advocate for gender equality.

If you’ve been affected by any of the issues above:

To speak with someone immediately, contact Samaritans on 116 123.

If life is in danger, call 999 or go directly to emergency services.
