The UKARU performs periodic sentinel studies of antibiotic resistance in different groups of anaerobes and has developed a large database of antibiograms of referred isolates. The UKARU MIC database (ARUMIC) can be interrogated to advise on the wild type distributions of most anaerobic bacteria. Please contact us for advice.
As the UK referral centre for anaerobic bacteria from clinical origin, the UKARU is uniquely placed to monitor national trends concerning these organisms and to react to outbreaks.
Our most recent surveillance study for Bacteroides spp. revealed an increase in resistance rates between 2 distinct cohorts separated by 16 years.
